MYCELIHOME

MYCELIHOME

Through the use of low-impact biomaterials and subsequent stewardship programs, MyceliHome aims to create and foster a mutually beneficial relationships for cormorants, their nesting habitat, people, and the environment along False Creek.

Created in collaboration with Sophie Ryznar and Salma Rafi.

Fall 2023.

The MyceliHome Project is a cormorant nesting box designed to be installed on the Granville Street Bridge as a solution to the degradation to the structure caused by the resident cormorant population. The boxes, to be made from a mycelium composite with 100% locally sourced material, are intended to catch the acidic guano of the pelagic cormorant. At end of life, the boxes are to be composted and used as fertilizer in local gardening initiatives along False Creek.
